I remember when I first moved to California, I did everything possible to hate it. I hated the sunny weather, I hated the palm trees, I hated the Spanish tile roofs. Anything that reminded me I was no longer in the Midwest, I hated. I eventually stopped hating it, but I was never too fond of it either, all the way through high school. When it finally came time for college applications, I saw it as a ticket out of California, once and for all.
Fast forward a couple years and here I am, spending four more years in California. But it's warming up to me...pun somewhat intended. Some time between driving up and down PCH the summer after high school and now becoming all too familiar with the roads of West LA (in vain attempts of avoiding the 405 traffic), I've become proud and happy to be, dare I say it, Californian. It took a while, but getting to live 15 minutes from the beach, a few miles from Beverly Hills and Hollywood, seeing movie premieres regularly and existing in a community of foodies has finally gotten to me. I was hesitant to embrace it at first, but through sharing LA with other people, I've learned to appreciate this life in the City of Angels.
But enough ranting about the contradictions of Lala-Land. LA is a confused "city" indeed but despite all the frustrations that come with living in LA, there are certain perks hidden, or displayed loud and clear on a mountain, that come with living in such an iconic town.
I told myself I would never do a Buzzfeed-like list...but when the time calls, I guess the medium does the topic justice. I hereby confess that I am starting to like LA.
HERE ARE 23 REASONS WHY (in no particular order):
